Maryland

Independence Now  Provides home modifications, vehicle modifications and/or assistive technology services to eligible individuals with significant disabilities to achieve the goal of living independently in the community.

Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development  Offers zero percent interest, deferred loans for a term of 30 years or grants to finance accessibility related improvements for the homes of seniors. 

Independent Living Tax Credit Act  Creates a tax credit up to $5,000 per taxpayer against the State income tax for an individual that incurs qualified expenses to renovate an existing home with accessibility and universal visitability features to assist individuals with disabilities. 

Gaithersburg Resident Accessibility Services Program (GRASP)  Provides 0% deferred loans to qualified residential property owners and long-term renters (with owner approval) who wish to add accessibility modifications to their homes.

Virginia

Livable Homes Tax Credit  Provides state tax credits for the purchase of new units or the retrofitting of existing housing.

Veterans

U. S. Department of Veterans Affairs  Housing grants for disabled veterans include Specially Adapted Housing Special Housing Adaptation grant, and Temporary Residence Adaptation grant.

AARP Veterans Home Modifications Benefits Guide  Guide connecting veterans and military families with financial assistance programs to modify their homes.

Home Improvements/Structural Alterations (HISA)  Benefit that provides medically necessary improvements

and structural alterations to primary residences.

Habitat for Humanity Veterans Build  Veterans provide volunteer, homeownership and employment opportunities to U.S veterans, military service members and their families.
